Here is the review of the day’s play in the Australia vs England, Match Review, Day 3:
The star of the day is undoubtedly Alastair Nathan Cook. What a performance it was! Yes, the more cynical of us will argue that he didn’t face Starc. However, in a high-pressure series, it takes extraordinary focus, grit, and resolve to compile such a marathon innings against a side like Australia in their own backyard. A fantastic innings by Cook, who has batted throughout the third day and has scored 140 runs today. The Aussies will have to regroup tomorrow and bowl out of their skins to Cook, who has played a chanceless knock and doesn’t look like he will get out any time soon. England’s immovable pillar of strength has finally come through and their lead is sizable now to pressurize Australia. After they wrap the innings up, the hosts’ batsmen will have a tough challenge with the deficit being the way it is. The track has no demons though and so it will be about application. Alsatair Cook scored his 5th test double ton and what was the highlight of the innings was the straight bat shots he played. His attitude against the short ball was also aggressive pulling the short ones to the fence.
One can say that he has been dropped twice by Steve Smith but its something one can ignore considering the criticism hovering around Cook before the test match. At one stage it looked that England will collapse after Joe Root departed but it was not to be as Stuart Broad gave good company to the former England skipper who also went on to score his 13th test fifty. England have a sizable lead and they will look to cash in to it and win their first game of the series so far.
