Here is the review of the day’s play in the Australia vs England, Match Review, Day 4:
James Anderson was dismissed off the first ball of the day when he edged one to silly mid on off Pat Cummins. Alastair Cook carried his bat all the way through with a marvellous knock of 244 not out. England had a lead of 164 runs. The Australians went off to a decent start as David Warner and Cameron Bancroft went to score 51 runs for the first wicket. Chris Woakes struck by cleaning up Bancroft by an inside edge on to the stumps. Next was James Anderson who sent back Usman Khawaja after edging him to the keeper behind.
David Warner however was on another level as he did entertain the crowd at the MCG with his trademark shots through the off side. Steve Smith also played beautifully with his out of the world technique. The day ended prematurely with the rain playing the spoilsport in the proceedings and reducing the winning chances for the English players.
The two senior batsmen – Smith and Warner – batted together for 136 balls, scoring just 38 runs. Bit boring, you may say! But that was the need of the hour for Australia. England’s bowling has been tight. England will expect to get quick wickets so that they can grab a win on the final day of the test to improve the scoreline.
