Here is the review of the 2nd ODI that India won by 141 runs against the Sri Lankans at the PCA stadium, Mohali:
Where do we start? Let’s get it done with the effort from Shikhar Dhawan who was brilliant at the start, played his shots and kept the run-rate going to allow Rohit the time to settle in. Then came Shreyas Iyer, new in his career, struggling for runs but held his nerves and continued the job that Dhawan had done. Rohit, on the other end, was still settling in. And after Iyer departed, Rohit was all set. With a hundred under the belt and an attack that was growing only predictable with each passing over. And batsmen feed on such predictable stuff. So did Rohit. Came a barrage of sixes and what once looked just another social media hoax mutated into reality. Rohit Sharma achieved immortality – scoring his 3rd double ton. The crowd could not have asked for anything more. The Hitman scored his final 104 runs of his 208 runs in just 36 balls. It was just a hurricane that just took off. Sri Lankan morales were deflated and it would have taken a miracle to win the game which didn’t happen actually. It was a formality to play out the next half of the game as India cruised to victory with the decider to be played on Sunday at Vizag.
A day of absolute contrasts – an innings coming to life in the final ten overs and another dying, slowly. Never mind, Vizag brings up the perfect decider – a decider to a long, overdrawn Indian winter. This match ended as a contest at least two hours ago before conclusion but if India were looking for an early finish, Angelo Mathews denied them with a stubborn hundred. These things count. But what a day for India, and what a day, especially, for Rohit Gurunath Sharma. There have only been six seven double-hundreds in the history of men’s ODI cricket, and this man has scored three of them.
