Here is the review of the 3rd ODI that India won by 8 wickets at Vizag:
If there’s ever a lesson on how to spoil a clean start, this match’s scorecard will serve as an example. What happened to Sri Lanka? They were going smooth with Tharanga clearing the fence at will and had support from the other end too. Then Dhoni found his back leg in the air and caught him 5 runs short of the hundred. As if that left others so heartbroken that they did not put up a fight at all.
Wickets came in clusters and soon Sri Lanka were struggling to last 50 overs. But they failed eventually. Gunaratne tried to save the day by denying Pradeep the strike but that did not work at all. The only thing it did was that denied Sri Lanka a few runs.
The collapse by Sri Lanka earlier on played a huge part and the pitch didn’t have any demons on it either. Once Sri Lanka lost the plot to make just 215, India had to self-destruct to lose on this. Against New Zealand earlier, in a series decider, the visitors were decimated on a turning track while chasing. No such worries this time. Rohit got out early but that was the only momentary solace for the visitors as they were torn to shreds by Shreyas Iyer and Dhawan. Iyer threw away a hundred but the experienced Dhawan didn’t. Dhawan also was clever enough to do the math at the end and rush to his hundred with a calculated assault.
Rohit Sharma wasn’t able to get going early but Shreyas Iyer and Shikhar Dhawan took India almost home before Shreyas Iyer got out and Dinesh Karthik and Shikahr Dhawan made sure there were no further wickets down. Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist spin got him 3 wickets and so did Y Chahal. Kuldeep Yadav also earned the Man of the Match award while Shikhar Dhawan earned the Man of the Series award.
